Fellowship Role: Deputy Chief for Early Childhood Planning, Washington, D.C. Public Schools
Monica Liang-Aguirre is currently the Director of Early Learning for the City of Seattle.
During the Fellowship, Monica was the Deputy Chief for Early Childhood Planning for Washington, D.C., Public Schools (DCPS). Monica served DCPS from 2008 to 2014 as the Principal of Oyster-Adams Bilingual School, a PK-8 school, where she managed a staff of 100 and a budget of $7.8 million. In 2010, Oyster-Adams was a recipient of the Together Everyone Achieves More (TEAM) Award for dramatic student achievement gains and was deemed a “Rewards” school in 2012 and 2013. Prior to this role, Monica was the Executive Director of the Advancement of Girls’ Education Scholarship Fund (AGE) and a principal of a community charter school in Arizona.
Monica holds a B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature from Oberlin College and an M.Ed. in Education Administration from University of Phoenix. Monica also holds an Ed.M. in International Education Policy from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education, where she received the Catherine B. Reynolds Fellowship for Social Entrepreneurship in 2006.
