Kevin Walker, Salem-Keizer Public Schools, Director of Elementary Education
Dr. Kevin Walker is a dedicated and dynamic educational leader with a track record of transformative achievements in K-12 education, policy development, and system-wide improvement. Currently serving as the Director of Elementary Education for Salem-Keizer Public Schools in Oregon, Dr. Walker oversees education initiatives impacting over 38,500 students, with a focus on equity and inclusive education. His role includes supervising and developing leadership capacity among principals and aligning resources to meet the diverse needs of 42 elementary schools.
Dr. Walker’s career spans various roles, from elementary teacher to assistant principal and principal, where he notably improved school climates and reduced racial disparities in student discipline. His leadership extends beyond the district as an adjunct professor at Portland State University, where he empowers future educational leaders with insights into Oregon's leadership standards and equity-focused strategies. He also serves on the board of the Boys and Girls Club of Polk and Marion Counties, contributing to the organization’s mission through fundraising and advocacy.
Dr. Walker holds a Doctor of Education in Leadership and Policy and a Master’s in Educational Leadership, both from Portland State University, and he has received numerous certifications, including the AASA Principal Supervisor Academy Certificate. He is an advocate for data-driven, culturally responsive education, as demonstrated by his published research on effective reading instruction for Black students. Driven by a commitment to educational equity, Dr. Walker continues to champion innovative practices that support students, educators, and families.
