Chelsey Tubbs is the Deputy Chief of Elementary Schools for the Madison Metropolitan School District in Wisconsin.

In this role, she supports the Chief of Schools by taking on significant responsibilities related to building the capacity and evaluating principals, providing strategic quality support to and supervision of schools while leading for racial equity and Black Excellence through effective instructional leadership and change management. Prior to the Fellowship, she served as a School Improvement Partner and lead, developed, planned, and coordinated school support of principals, leadership teams, school-based coaches and central office departments in service to schools’ implementing their school improvement plans. She began her career as an elementary public school teacher in New York City. During her years in New York, she served in several roles from teacher to principal in the South Bronx, Harlem, and Brooklyn in both elementary and middle schools. She was the recipient of New York City's Chancellor's Big Apple Award for Teacher Excellence. 

Chelsey holds an M.Ed. from Columbia University’s Teachers College in Education Leadership, an M.S. from Pace University in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, and a B.A. from Beloit College in Political Science and Education & Youth Studies.
