Fellowship Role: Administrative Leadership Coach, Southwest Independent School District (San Antonio, TX)

Angelica Romero is currently the Assistant Superintendent of the Innovation Zone at San Antonio ISD.

During the Fellowship, Angelica was an administrative leadership coach in Southwest ISD located in San Antonio, Texas, where she worked to prepare the district’s next generation of principals and assistant principals. In 2011, she opened Medio Creek Elementary, one of two new schools in the district.  Prior to this role, she served as the principal of Bob Hope Elementary in Southwest ISD (TX) from 2005 to 2011, having previously served for three years as assistant principal. Under her leadership, the school rating at Bob Hope Elementary improved from an acceptable status to an exemplary status as determined by the state accountability system. Bob Hope Elementary was recognized as a Texas Title I Distinguished Progress school in 2010-11 for going from an Acceptable, to Recognized, to an Exemplary rating in three years. Before becoming a principal, Angelica spent four years as a 3rd and 4th grade teacher for bilingual students at Hidden Cove Elementary in Southwest ISD. She spent her first two years as a 2nd grade bilingual teacher in Weslaco, Texas.

Angelica holds an M.S. in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a B.A. in International Studies and Spanish from Southwestern University.
