Current Role: Chief Schools Officer, Alliance Public Charter Schools Los Angeles
Fellowship Role: Director of High Schools, San Francisco Unified School District
Pablo Villavicencio is currently the Chief Schools Officer for Alliance Public Schools in Los Angeles, CA.
He has also served as the Deputy Chief of Innovation for Oakland Unified School District and as the Director of High Schools for San Francisco Unified School District. Prior to the Fellowship, Pablo was an educator in the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE), serving marginalized and underserved communities as a teacher and Academic Dean. He served in the principalship for five years, eventually designing and opening a school designed to serve at-risk students in the Bronx, 93% of whom were in the lowest one-third of academic standing in NYCDOE.
Pablo's drive to eradicate the educational inequities in our broader educational system stems from his own experience. Like many children of immigrants, Pablo was underserved in low-performing urban schools in East Los Angeles (El Sereno). The unjust contrast of his primary education with that of his high school in a suburb fueled his passion that all students deserve a quality education regardless of their zip code.
Pablo holds a B.A. in Political Economy of Industrialized Societies from University of California, Berkeley and an M.S.Ed. in Dual Language/Bilingual General Education from The Bank Street College of Education.
