Fellowship Role: Director, Community Strategy, Achievement School District (Tennessee)

Ian Buchanan is currently the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for The School District of University City.

After the Fellowship, Ian served as Deputy Director at the Parent Leadership and Advocacy Institute. During the Fellowship, Ian was the Director of Strategic Partnerships for the Achievement School District in Tennessee. Prior to this role, Ian served as the Managing Director for District, School, and Community Partnerships at Teach For America, where he increased the credibility and impact of Teach For America-St. Louis in the St. Louis community by creating the strategic plan that led to the establishment of over 60 new collaborations in less than one year. Preceding Ian’s work at Teach For America, he was a successful district school leader in St. Louis from 2000-2011 and was awarded the Maxine Clark Principal of the Year Award by Teach For America and the Consummate Principal of the Year Award by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals.

Ian holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and an Ed.D. from the University of Missouri.
