Rogelio Sanchez, Alliance College-Ready Public Schools, Principal
Rogelio Sánchez Jr. currently serves as the Principal of Alliance Judy Ivie Burton Technology Academy High School (Burton Tech) in South Los Angeles. Since 2014, he has led with a strong commitment to academic excellence, culturally responsive leadership, and community partnership. Under his guidance, Burton Tech has consistently ranked among the top-performing high schools in Los Angeles, earning recognition as a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School, a California Distinguished School (2019 & 2024), Pivotal Practice Awardee (2021) and a Top Public School for Underserved Students (2018).
During his tenure, Rogelio has grown enrollment, expanded staffing, and successfully managed a $10 million school budget. His leadership has resulted in a 99% graduation rate, 98% average daily attendance, and a significant increase in student performance on state assessments—ELA SBAC scores rose from 62% to 80%, and Math scores from 25% to 47%. He maintains a strong focus on positive school culture and student well-being, with a suspension/expulsion rate consistently below 1.5%.
Rogelio also serves as a Mentor Principal within the Alliance network, providing executive coaching to peer school leaders to drive continuous improvement. He began his leadership journey at Alliance Patti and Peter Neuwirth Leadership Academy, where he served as Assistant Principal and previously held roles as Director of Instruction and Physical Education teacher. Across roles, he has championed professional development, teacher mentorship, and the implementation of structures that build thriving school environments.
Beyond his school, Rogelio contributes to the broader educational and civic community as a member of the CIF LA City Section Executive Committee and the Board of Managers, and as a dedicated Kiwanis Club of South Gate member. He also serves as a longtime varsity assistant coach at James A. Garfield High School.
Rogelio holds a Master’s in Health and Physical Education from Northwest Missouri State University, an Adapted PE Authorization from Point Loma Nazarene University, a Master’s in Administration and B.A. in Physical Education from California State University, Dominguez Hills, and an Associate’s in Administration of Justice from Cerritos College. He is also a graduate of the National Principals Academy at Relay Graduate School of Education.
He has been honored as Alliance Principal of the Year (2019 & 2024), a Pivotal Practice Awardee (2022), and a Ryan Award Nominee (2019).
