Crystal Dorsey-Turner, Chicago Public Schools, Executive Director of School Supports

Crystal Dorsey-Turner has served Chicago Public Schools students and communities for over 30 years as an educator, instructional coach, assistant principal, principal, and now Executive Director of School Supports. In her current role, she developed a model of targeted support to provide school leaders with intentional collaboration and support aligned with the school’s priorities. Additionally, she supports over 200 schools in ongoing resource alignment and navigating the Illinois State Board of Education’s school improvement processes. These processes include grant funding, professional learning opportunities, central office department collaboration, and external partnerships. This has led to increased use of grant funds to drive continuous improvement in schools across the district.

Crystal believes that all children can learn & excel at great heights when the right-fit supports are in place to ensure success. Crystal’s unwavering commitment to this “HEART” work and her passion for teaching and learning have shaped her drive to lead with commitment, dedication, & compassion. Crystal is respected by her peers & school community for her resiliency, tenacity, and grit with a focus on students and their families.

Crystal was born and raised in the West Englewood Community of Chicago and attended Chicago Public Schools. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Chicago State University, a Master’s Degree from National Louis University, and an Education Specialist Degree from Concordia with a superintendent endorsement. She is currently seeking her Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University.
