Emily Masengale is the Assistant Executive Director/Interim Executive Director of Christel House Indianapolis.
Emily Masengale is the Assistant Executive Director/Interum Executive Director of Christel House Indianapolis. In this role, she serves an innovative charter school network that has been serving the Indianapolis community for over 20 years. She is currently leading long term strategic planning for the network, supports the principals at each school, and launched a network DEIB initiative in 2021 that is continuing to grow. She has been with the network for 13 years. Prior to transitioning into the Assistant Executive Director role in 2020, she was the Founding Principal of Christel House DORS, an adult school serving students 18 and older that want to earn a high school diploma instead of a GED/HSE. DORS started serving 175 students in 2012 and has grown to serving over 800 students across 4 campuses.
Emily was selected as the first Indianapolis Principal Fellow in 2010, a leadership pipeline that is a partnership with Teach for America Indianapolis and Columbia University where she earned her MEd. in Organization and Leadership. Prior to moving back to her hometown of Indianapolis, Emily was a Teach for America corps member in St. Louis where she earned her first Master's in Education Administration from Saint Louis University. Prior to joining Teach for America, she earned her BA in Secondary Special Education with a minor in Leadership, Ethics, and Social Action from Indiana University.
Emily is actively engaged in her community and has sat on several Boards and many advisory task forces. She was a member of the 2022-23 Hoosier Women Forward class and the 2021-2022 Circle City Leaders Fellowship through RISE Indy She was recognized as a “Distinguished Young Professional” from the National Urban League in 2020. In February 2018, Emily was the "WomanKind" feature by Kathy Davis Designs, nominated to the 2016 IU Health Foundation’s Inspiring Leaders class; was the 2015 Recipient of Junior Achievement’s “Best and Brightest in Education and Nonprofit” Award ; was selected as one of 20 in Indianapolis to be a part of the first Advance 317 (Toronto) cohort through the Indy Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Exchange (LEX); was the recipient of the 2014 Glamour Magazine Indiana “Hometown Hero: 50 Phenomenal Women a Year Who are Making a Difference” Recognition; was a member of the 2014 Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series Class of XXXIX; was a 2014 Finalist for Junior Achievement Indianapolis’ Best and Brightest Award; was a 2014 Indianapolis Business Journal “Forty Under 40” Recipient; was named the June 204 "Woman to Know" by the Indianapolis Star; was the 2009 Big Picture Academy Teacher of the Year; was the 2009 St. Louis Public Schools Teacher of the Year; and was a 2009 Missouri Teacher of the Year Top 5 Finalist.
