Dr. Davion R. Lewis is the Chief Executive Officer of the South Bend Empowerment Zone

Dr. Davion R. Lewis is the Chief of the South Bend Empowerment Zone, a school transformation system within the South Bend Community School Corporation, which was created by the Indiana Department of Education in 2019. In this role, he oversees the academic success of the South Bend Empowerment Zone. Prior to that, Davion was the Executive Director of School Support and Improvement at New Orleans Public Schools. He has been an educator for the last 16 years working as a teacher, coach, administrator, Board member, and consultant. Davion also serves as a consulting Chief of Staff with vChief. As a result of his work, Davion has been featured in the AJC, EdLANTA, the Georgia Charter Schools Association, WSB-TV channel 2 news, WXIA-TV channel 11 news, to name a few. He has also had the pleasure of hosting numerous elected officials and high-profile individuals including, Civil Rights icon, United States Representative John Lewis, Bahamian Consulate-General, the Hon. Mrs. Astra Armbrister-Rolle, award-winning performer Lamont Rucker, just to name a few.

Davion earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Bethune-Cookman University where he graduated magna cum laude, his Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Clayton State University, and his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and the Science of Learning from the University at Buffalo. He is currently completing an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in School Administration and Leadership with Superintendent Licensure at Indiana State University. Davion also served as an adjunct professor where he’s taught Introduction to Education. Davion is a published author, most recently, Handbook of Research on Challenging Deficit Thinking for Exceptional Education Improvement (IGI Global, 2022), and he has presented at various academic conferences.

Davion hold membership in several civic and social organization, including as a Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. where he holds leadership roles at local, state, and regional levels. He has also served on various non-profits boards and was appointed to the City of East Point Cultural Enrichment Commission by city’s City Council.

In his free time, Davion is a tennis player, runner, foodie, and avid TV and movie watcher.
