Tanya Núñez is the Assistant Superintendent of Democracy Prep Public Schools.

Tanya Núñez is a life-long educator who is known for centering the needs of her scholars, families and the communities that she serves. Currently, she is in her second year as an Assistant Superintendent of Democracy Prep Public Schools, which serves 21 high performing schools and one program in New York, New Jersey, Baton Rouge, Las Vegas, and San Antonio. Tanya began teaching in NYC’s Department of Education in 1993, teaching elementary school in the Bronx and then found her way into the charter sector where she has continued her work with urban education serving as a fierce advocate for equity and quality educational outcomes. She is most proud of leading Democracy Prep’s flagship school where she served 7 years as the middle school Principal and was honored for improving ELA and Math scores, outperforming district and state averages, for three consecutive years from 2016-2018. She is a passionate educator who is proud of her female Latinx roots and leads with this identity in mind.
