Cortnei Flucas is the Unified Students Supports Officer for Indianapolis Public Schools.
In this role, Cortnei is uniquely positioned to recommend, develop, and execute systems that eliminate systemic, structural barriers to inclusive education and champion the strategic alignment of programming that promotes student belonging, safety, and positive school climate through a racial equity lens. Prior to joining the Fellowship, Cortnei served as a middle school English teacher, English department chair, and assistant principal in central Indiana where she was also named Teacher of the Year for MSD Washington Township in 2011. For the past decade, Cortnei has also served as a teacher and leader coach and professional development content creator for TNTP. The Indiana Black Expo recognized Cortnei in 2020 for her efforts of culturally responsive instructional design, new teacher development, and advocacy around the issues of inclusive education, equitable student supports, access to mental health, wellness, and social-emotional learning, and transformative school culture, by presenting her with the African American Excellence in Education award.
Cortnei is currently working towards obtaining a doctorate degree in Education Administration with a concentration in Social Justice in Special Education from Ball State University. She holds a B.A. in English & Literary Criticism from Xavier University of Louisiana and an M.S. in Education Administration from Butler University.
