Arlena Gaynor currently serves as the Deputy Chief of Academics at Attuned Education Partners
Arlena began the Fellowship as the Director of the Reading Language Arts Department for Dallas Independent School District. In this role, she oversaw the curriculum development, professional learning, assessment creation, interventions, and engagement opportunities to support the students and teachers in grades 3–12 in the district’s 232 schools. While she was in that role, Dallas ISD saw consistent growth in reading achievement. Prior to joining Dallas ISD, she worked for the Literacy and Humanities department in DC Public Schools. There, she managed the creation, revision, and publishing of their nationally recognized K–5 literacy curriculum. She began her career as a tutor and site coordinator for DC Reads, was an elementary school teacher in both public and charter schools in Washington, DC, and is a former fellow of The New Teacher Project.
Arlena holds an M.Ed. in Education Policy and Leadership from American University and a B.A. in Psychology from Georgetown University.
