Shawn currently serves as an Instructional Superintendent for D.C. Public Schools.
During and after the Fellowship, as Instructional Superintendent, he has been responsible for the management, operation, and accomplishment of his cluster of elementary schools by providing leadership to administrators, principals, and teachers with the goal of achieving academic excellence for all students. He also served as Interim Chief of Secondary Schools in the district. Previously, Shawn served as a Managing Director with Uplift Education, a charter management organization located in Dallas-Fort Worth. Prior to joining Uplift Education, Shawn was a Senior Managing Director for the Teacher Support and Development Team of Teach For America. Shawn also served as a principal for many years in North Carolina, working for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Alamance-Burlington Schools, Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools, and Roanoke Rapids Graded Schools.
Shawn holds a B.A. from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Economics and an M.S. in School Administration and Curriculum Supervision from East Carolina University. Shawn volunteers his time coaching youth soccer and baseball and is active in his church.
