Current Role: Chief of Networks, Leading Educators

Fellowship Role: Instructional Superintendent, D.C. Public Schools

Dr. LaKimbre Brown currently serves as the Chief of Networks for Leading Educators.

During and after the Fellowship, she served as an Instructional Superintendent for D.C. Public Schools. Previously, LaKimbre had served as the principal of Milani Elementary School (Newark, CA) since 2008. In this role, she led a leadership model for 50 staff members, increased the rate of attendance from 90% to 98% over four years, and managed an annual operating budget of $2M. LaKimbre was awarded the Alameda County Educator of Excellence Award in 2008 and the Newark Unified Elementary Principal of the Year award in 2010.

LaKimbre was awarded Fulbright Scholarships that she used to travel to Tokyo and Brazil to study their educational systems.  She holds a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Illinois, an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Arizona, and a Ph.D. in Education from Mills College.
